I finally got to see a live production of HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH on my 39th birthday. I had the original off-off broadway cast recording before i even knew there would be a movie. The movie blew me away with it's fantastic visuals and excellent performances but it's a totally different experience live. It's like going to a rock gig where the lead singer basically tells his/her life story(so far) through song,slideshow,animation and a great script. IOTA stars in this Australian production and has the most incredible range from screaming nasty hard punk to country to tender torch song. A phenomenal performance that won him the award for best performance in a musical at the Sydney theatre awards, against some heavy competition. Saskia Smith as Yitsak was a revelation and the band was awesome! Hedwig also took home the best musical award. Try and see it on stage if you can.
